PPA Achieving Independence
Achieving Independence is a pharmacy business competition held by the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association. All seven schools of pharmacy from around the commonwealth are eligible to participate in up to four person teams to submit an idea that is both feasible and innovative to a panel of independent pharmacy industry judges.
Brandon Antinopoulos, Kyle McCormick, Ravi Patel, and Natalie Pratte from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy along with faculty mentor, Karen Pater, PharmD, and independent pharmacy owner, Joe Bettinger, RPh, won the 2012 PPA Achieving Independence for the idea of a "teaching pharmacy" focused on educating future practitioners and the community. They redefined the role of the community pharmacist as one not bound by brick and mortar to practice out in the community beyond the pharmacy itself.
